FAQs

Commonly asked questions about the Yukon Esthetics Diploma program.

  • The program is broken down into three phases, (1) online theory, (2) practical training in-person at the academy and (3) your practicum hours. We front load the theory so you have all the background knowledge required to start hands-on training in the school. During the 8-week theory phase, there will be 3 days per week of instructor-led training and 2 days a week of self-study to complete assignments.

  • The program is approximately 40% theory, 20 % clinical instruction 40% hands-on learning. The first 8 weeks are instructional in theory, followed by 2 weeks of house practicum. After your practicum, you complete your practicum hours with clients at your own pace.

  • There currently is no licensing in most parts of Canada, but the Government of Canada requires a minimum of 800 hours from a registered trade school. We do have an industry council called Beauty Council where you can gain your international cosmetology certificate. Graduates from this program qualify to take the exam to gain this extra credential. Elements require a minimum 75% to pass; because Beauty Council requires 70%, our graduates are held to a higher standard to ensure they have the skills and the knowledge to pass this additional exam.

  • The diploma program includes training in:

    • Manicure

    • Pedicure

    • Waxing

    • Makeup, tinting, lifting and lamination

    • Relaxation massage and body treatments

    • Facials

  • You can schedule your practicum hours at Normandy Place, with an additional opportunity to do work experience that counts towards your practicum in participating real salon locations.

  • You will complete a theory and practicum exam before graduating. This exam is 15 hours spread out over 2 days

    Practical Exam details:

    • For Manicure and Pedicure service, one must be Gel polished, and one must include the “Spa” component of paraffin

    • Makeup application with false lashes

    • Tinting of brows and lashes
